Publishing a 4,000 word essay straight to Twitter might seem an odd endeavour at first, with the 140 character constraint part of the platform’s very fabric. However Teju Cole’s A Piece of the Wall quickly dispelled any doubts I may have had – granted, his being the first attempt I had come across.
The stream of tweets slide from speech to narrative to quote and back, driving Cole’s non-fiction reportage from the American/Mexican border along at a sharp, steady pace.
Contention surrounding questions of immigration fill me with intrigue – ideas of physically drawn borders even more so. For me, one line seemed to resonate more than others:
